Reno Air Racing Association and Blue Angels honor Reno hero with jet ride
Murphy Galloway from Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada selected for exclusive ride with member of the Blue Angels ahead of Reno Air Show
Reno, Nev. – The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) is honored to announce local hero Murphy Galloway, program manager at Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada (GSSN), was selected for a ride in one of the Blue Angels’ F/A-18 Super Hornet jets before the military performers thrill crowds at the 60th anniversary Reno Air Show. Working together the organizations fielded nominations, and the Blue Angels office selected a community hero whose leadership and work with local youth has had a significant impact, and therefore made them an exceptional pick for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“We are proud to have worked with our community partners to find someone as deserving as Murphy for a ride with the Blues this year,” said Tony Logoteta, president and chief operating officer of the Reno Air Racing Association. “Educating local youth about the opportunities in STEM and aviation while supporting their dreams is weaved into our mission as an organization. We’re proud to offer programs like our Flight Training Scholarship and yearly STEM Discovery Zone activation that aid this goal. It’s incredibly important for us to have a positive impact on youth and we know Murphy’s work with Girls Scouts of the Sierra Nevada sets an excellent example.”
In her role as program manager, Galloway has been a steadfast resource for both the girls and volunteers she works with. She serves hundreds of girls through the organization every year by providing high-quality outdoor and STEM programming across northern Nevada and eastern California. Since joining GSSN in 2022 as a community engagement specialist, Galloway has gone above and beyond all expectations, creating environments where girls truly thrive and develop new skills. A lifelong Girl Scout, Galloway embodies every trait GSSN aims to instill in the girls it works with, and it is because of this that she has earned a private ride with one of the Blues.
Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada supports girls through programs that develop a strong sense of self, positive values, and healthy relationships. In a territory that includes northern Nevada and northeastern California, girls discover their strengths, connect with their communities, and rise to meet new challenges. Girl Scouting brings their dreams to life as they work together to build a better world. Learn more about Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada by visiting www.gssn.org.
As the only air show this year featuring the two military teams, the Blue Angels will join the Snowbirds in the weekend’s lineup to thrill onlookers with displays that push boundaries and showcase aerial mastery. Adding to the excitement and celebrating its own 50-year milestone with a throwback red, white and blue paint scheme, the F-16 Viper Demo team will also stun the crowd with high-speed maneuvers, tight turns and dynamic aerobatics. The also includes pilots from the National Championship Air Races, civilian acts, a static ramp full of aircraft and, for the first time ever, a Friday evening show.
